Choosing Between the NEBOSH Diploma and NVQ Level 6

The NEBOSH National Diploma is the course that many people take in order to become a chartered safety and health practitioner and is popular with delegates across the UK. The NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice is a leading vocational qualification and is one of the more advanced NVQ courses available to trainees today. Both have their own distinct benefits – but which one offers more flexibility and value for money? Here’s everything you need to know!

How are the courses delivered?

The NEBOSH diploma is delivered much like lessons you’d receive in school, followed by traditional exams. If you thrive in this kind of learning environment, then it could be a great option for you. However, most learners do not. If you want to learn in a more practical, hands-on manner, then an NVQ is a much better choice. You will be able to continue learning while you work, and exams aren’t a part of the picture. Instead, you will be assessed on a project basis, with the emphasis placed on the work you complete during your training sessions.

Who are the courses for?

So, who are the two courses for? The NEBOSH diploma is for health and safety professionals and managers who have several years’ experience in such a role. In most instances, you will have needed to complete a Level 3 qualification such as the NEBOSH certificate to start the diploma. However, we know that some people prefer to display their expertise with what they have learnt in the workplace – which is where the NVQ Level 6 comes in. If you have 3-5 years’ experience in management or a senior management role that incorporates health and safety responsibilities, you’re good to go!

Value for money and career progression

If you have already completed the NVQ Level 5, you can upgrade to the Level 6 without having to complete both courses separately. Factor in that, as well as already being a cheaper alternative to NEBOSH, you can take the NVQ Level 6 for just £1200 thanks to our promotional offer, and it’s clear to see why it is a much more accessible way to gain the certification you need.

If progressing to further qualifications is important to you, you will be pleased to know that completing the NVQ Level 6 puts you on a fast-track route to GRADIOSH and then onto CMIOSH.

Learn where it suits you

As we have already mentioned, the NEBOSH qualification is classroom-based. More and more people are looking for flexibility when they learn – which is very much available to them when they take the NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice. You can learn virtually and on-site, allowing you to learn where it most suits you. If you were worried that this would see you miss out on valuable interaction with your assessor, think again! You’ll be given all the support you need as you learn, helping you to achieve your goals.
